MYTH BUSTERS!

We are launching a new blog series themed around the Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters. The topics of this series will dispel some of the misconceptions of working with HandsOn.

Myth #1 HandsOn has volunteers stockpiled in the office waiting for deployment.
Wow! Wouldn’t that be something? Volunteers spilling out of the doors, stacked on shelves, hanging from the rafters!
Fact: HandsOn does have a strong base of dedicated volunteers and that base does grow daily however, volunteer deployment is completely up to the volunteer. HandsOn is happy to assist partners in the recruitment of volunteers however we have processes in place for recruitment that are based on past successes. We recommend posting your needs about 2 weeks to 1 month before the opportunity. We try to ensure all opportunities are approved and live within 24 hours. If this is an urgent need shoot Melissa an email and we will highlight it in our Community Spotlight, Volunteer Blog and the Volunteer Action Alert (scheduling permitting). If we are working with any groups at the time we will also let them know about the opportunity as well. However, posting it on the database is key! It is very difficult to send volunteers to multiple places to sign up for opportunities. If your opportunity is not posted on our database, unfortunately, we cannot recruit for you.
We understand there are sometimes last second needs out there. As mentioned, the sooner you have your needs posted, the more likely you will fill those needs. However, when you do have those last second needs, please do post them. We will do the best we can to get the word out.
